OF ANIMATION COUPLED WITH LIVE FOOTAGE, SUCH AS USED IN THE MUSIC
VIDEOS BY GORILLAZ
AND THE MANIPULATION OF VIDEO TO PRODUCE A RHYTHMIC EFFECT, SIMILAR
TO THE 'VIDEO PERCUSSION' WORK CARRIED OUT BY COLDCUT
AND LUCKY
PEOPLE CENTER.

GODZILLA IMEDIA INTRO
A VIDEO
CLIP FROM THE CLASSIC SCIENCE FICTION FILM'GODZILLA' BY TOHO WAS
USED ALONG WITH AN ANIMATED TITLE PRODUCED IN FLASH AND IMPORTED
AS QUICKTIME FORMAT. THE TITLE READS 'IMEDIA' AND IS INTENDED TO
REFLECT THE STYLE OF JAPANESE MONSTER FLICKS FROM THE 70S. THE BACKGROUND
WAS KEYED OUT IN PREMIER USING THE CHROMA KEY EFFECT.

'666 HEAD' BLIPVERT
THE
IDEA OF THESE SHORT BREAKS BETWEEN THE MAIN SEGMENTS COMES FROM
A SERIES OF 2 SECOND ADVERTISEMENTS, KNOWN AS 'BLIPVERTS', PRODUCED
BY SHYNOLA
FOR THE PROMOTION OF RADIOHEAD'S AMNESIAC LP. THESE BLIPVERTS WERE
USED TO PROVIDE SPLIT SECOND VISUAL AND AUDITORY SHAKE-UP FOR VIEWERS
DURING COMMERCIAL BREAKS. IN MY PRESENTATION THERE IS AN ABRUPT
CHANGE OF SUBJECT BETWEEN THE 3 MAIN SEGMENTS AND THESE BLIPVERTS
PROVIDE A BRIEF BREATHING SPACE BEFORE THE NEXT SEGMENT STARTS.

'DOLOMITE DANCE' CHOP UP
THIS VIDEO CLIP
IS TAKEN FROM THE 1970S BLACKSPLOITATION FILM 'DOLOMITE' AND FEATURES
A SCENE WHERE DOLO DEALS OUT HIS OWN BRAND OF VIGILANTE JUSTICE.
DOLOMITE FIRES A BARRAGE OF SHOTGUN BLASTS AT HIS VICTIM'S FEET
TELLING HIM TO DANCE. I USED THE RAZOR TOOL IN PREMIERE TO SPLICE
UP THE SHOTGUN BLASTS AND THEN USED THE COPY AND PASTE FUNCTION
TO ARRANGE THE SOUNDS AND THEIR ACCOMPANYING VIDEO INTO PATTERNS,
TREATING THESE SEGMENTS AS A SERIES OF DRUM BREAKS.
ALSO
ON THIS CLIP THE STATION IDENTITY LOGO STARTS AT THIS POINT AND
CARRIES THROUGH TO THE END, PROVIDING A VISUAL ANCHOR TO UNIFY THE
VARIOUS CLIPS INTO ONE PRESENTATION.

'SCRIBBLES' BLIPVERT
ANOTHER
SHORT ANIMATION PRODUCED IN FLASH. IT IS A SKETCHPAD IMAGE PANNED
FROM CORNER TO CORNER. THE 'COLOUR OFFSET' TOOL IN PREMIERE WAS
USED TO ADD A SENSE OF DEPT TO THE FLAT LINE DRAWING.
5.
'BUDDHA PALM' CHOP UP
KUNG
FU MOVIES HAVE BEEN A NATURAL CHOICE OF SAMPLE MATERIAL FOR MUSIC
PRODUCERS BECAUSE OF THE CLEAR-CUT AND RHYTHMIC NATURE OF THE SOUND
EFFECTS. IN THIS PIECE I USED THE RAZOR BLADE TOOL IN PREMIERE TO
SEPARATE THE VARIOUS KICKS AND PUNCHES AND USED THE ELEMENTS TO
PRODUCE A SEQUENCE OF PATTERNS AND LOOPS FROM THE CLIP.

'HEADPHONE KID' BLIPVERT
A SHORT
ANIMATION PRODUCED IN FLASH OF AN UNBORN CHILD CHARACTER LISTENING
TO A WALKMAN WITH A SNIPPET FROM A TRIBE CALLED QUEST'S 'BUTTER'
PROVIDING A BRIEF CHANGE OF MOOD.
7.
'NUCLEAR FAMILY' ANIMATION
THIS
ANIMATED PIECE WAS PRODUCED IN FLASH AND IMPORTED INTO PREMIERE
IN QUICKTIME FORMAT. THE BACKGROUND WAS THEN KEYED OUT USING THE
CHROMA KEY OPTION AND STOCK FOOTAGE OF NUCLEAR BOMB TESTS WAS USED
AS THE BACKGROUND. A SEGMENT FROM 'NEUTRON BOMB' BY EEK-A-MOUSE
IS USED AS THE SOUNDTRACK.

FADE OUT
THE
SCREEN RETURNS TO BLACK WITH JUST THE STATION IDENTITY LOGO DISPLAYED,
THIS ALONG WITH A BRIEF SNIPPET FROM THE END OF 'BLACKLIST' BY PREFUSE
73 IS USED TO WIND DOWN THE PRESENTATION.
